Cycling from Vienna to Bratislava along the Danube Cycle Path, part of the Eurovelo 6 bike route.
Biking Tips:
* You don’t need to bring your own bike, there are plenty shops in Vienna that offer reasonably priced bike rentals.
* The Vienna section of the Danube Cycle Path has many bars and restaurants right on the trail, so grab lunch, fill up on water, and use the free restrooms before you venture too far out of Vienna. Amenities become pretty scarce around 20km+ or so in, so I would strongly recommend a pitstop.
* Pay careful attention to signs on the trail early on, the trail makes a hard left turn, crosses a road, and finally snakes through a chemical plant, if you miss the turn the path leads you to a dead end. If you find yourself riding along right next to the river with no barriers to the water on the righthand side, chances are you missed the turn. Experience.
*The trail is pretty flat, but does have some sections of crushed limestone (you might want to leave the 23mm tires at home for this section) it’s no Paris Roubaix but it’s nice to have wider tires on this terrain.
* Leave early, between stops for lunch and ice cream you can burn up quite a bit of time out there.
* Finally, book accommodations ahead of time, spending an hour picking out the perfect dinner spot is much more enjoyable than trying to find a hotel with available rooms after spending a good portion of the day cycling. More experience.
